In a surprising turn of events, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has officially confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series will not feature the rumored MiOS but will instead come with a brand new operating system called HyperOS. Production has already started. This follows our previous article “Xiaomi Ditches MIUI 15 for New MiOS: What to Expect with Xiaomi 14 Series,” where MiOS was initially rumored to be the new OS. Sources suggest that MiOS couldn’t be used due to trademark issues.
HyperOS: A Complete Overhaul
According to a tweet from Abhishek Yadav, a tech insider, HyperOS will be a “completely refreshed” interface, different from the previous MIUI. Xiaomi team members have noted that there will be no resemblance to the older user interface.
Global Launch Plans
Initially, HyperOS will be launched in China and then released globally. The Xiaomi 14 series phones will come pre-installed with this new operating system.
Beyond Smartphones
Mukul Sharma’s tweet indicates that HyperOS is aimed towards a more closely-knit Xiaomi ecosystem, including Cars and AIoT products. Built on Android and Xiaomi’s self-developed Vela architecture, HyperOS appears to be a significant step in a new direction for the company.
HyperOS is the latest move by Xiaomi to consolidate its various products under a unified system. With the production of the Xiaomi 14 series now officially underway, and HyperOS as its key feature, the anticipation continues to build.
