Samsung Z Fold6 to Reuse Camera Sensor, May Aim for Thinner Design

Key Takeaways:

  • Samsung’s Z Fold6 likely to reuse the 50MP GN3 sensor for its main camera.
  • Samsung may aim for a thinner design, potentially taking cues from Huawei’s Mate X5.

New rumors about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 suggest that the device will likely feature the same 50MP Samsung GN3 sensor as its predecessor for the main camera. The information comes from industry insider ICE UNIVERSE, who advises tapering expectations on camera upgrades for this upcoming model.

No Major Camera Upgrade

Samsung plans to reuse the 50MP GN3 sensor for the main camera of the Z Fold6, according to ICE UNIVERSE. This is the same sensor that was used in both the Z Fold5 and Z Fold4. The last time a different sensor was used was in the Z Fold3, which had a 12MP Sony IMX555 main camera.

Focusing on Slimmer Design

On the other hand, a report by THE ELEC indicates that Samsung is aiming to make the Z Fold6 thinner than previous models. Samsung may be studying Huawei’s Mate X5 to understand how Huawei achieved a thinner profile and a larger internal battery.

The Z Fold5 is 6.1 mm unfolded and 13.4 mm folded. The Mate X5, by contrast, measures 5.3 mm unfolded and 11.1 mm folded. Samsung might be looking to close the gap in thickness with competitor devices.

Given the information available, it’s clear that Samsung is making certain choices for its upcoming Z Fold6. Whether those choices will satisfy customer demands will only be known once the product is officially launched.
